Encountering Agnes Nedregard’s Art Practice

a presentation of my work as a performance artist

by Agnes Nedregard

A presentation of my work as a performance artist since 2005.

I have invested in topics concerning cultural and personal “baggage”, what we bring with us into new situations and meetings, and how this affects our relationship with the world.

I create charged, visceral, visually and materially invested situations of encounter between performer and audience, utilising space, context, time, body, self made costumes and objects and chosen materials in attempts to create new realisations as the performative moment unfolds in the real time situation of shared experience.

In the presentation I introduce the “language” of performance art through utilising the same language within the lecture – to further enhance the understanding of contemporary performance art as expression. I show examples from my work through performative gestures and words, complimented by photo and video documentation.

The media specifics of the genre is introduced through emphasising the real time encounter between performer and audience, illustrated by utilising the real time encounter of lecturer and audience in the lecture room.

Duration lecture: 1 hour

Equipment specifications: projector to be connected to laptop. Min. 20 min preparation time in lecture room.

Lecture can be held in English or Norwegian.

In its activation of intersubjectivity, body art, in fact, demonstrates that meaning is an exchange and points to the impossibility of any practice being “inherently” positive or negative in cultural value.

by Agnes Nedregard

An introduction to the contemporary visual performance art scene in the Nordic countries, with a brief history drawing lines to art world currents in Europe and beyond that has affected the Nordic performance art scene.
